There is no known cure for diabetes in the sense of restoring an individual to his or her pre-illness state by removing the cause. Many factors contribute to diabetes, most having to do with individual lifestyles.
Alfred Lam was a successful sales consultant prior to his foray into the health and wellness industry. While pondering his impending retirement, he realized he wanted to make a meaningful contribution to society. "I wanted to do something really worthwhile," he recalls. With the counsel of his business partner, and family roots in the pharmaceutical business, his interest in alternative health solutions grew.
In November 2012, Alfred opened Vigour Health & Beauty in Port Moody's Newport Village to fill the void in what he believed was a deficit in the marketplace. "I realized there was a lot of misconception and things that were unclear for customers," says Alfred. "Whenever I walked into a health supplement store, I could never get the right answers."
His inspiration also came from a family health crisis, when his mother was diagnosed with bile duct cancer with a prognosis of three months to live. "That sparked me to investigate things that could help my mom," Alfred says. Collaborating with his mom's oncologist, they treated her with various alternative medicines. She went on to live another 13 months. "I wish I knew things back then that I know now," he sighs.
