We ordered the calamri, mussels and tiger shrimp to start, and ordered their 'famous seafood platters'...this restaurant was recommended to me by a friend and now i'm the one recommending!Excellent downtown restaurant.
We chose Ventura's based on the menu posted outside and a peek thru the windows. We had no idea what a treat it would be. We started with the sauteed mussels and they were delicious, especially the sauce. Our entries were the Grilled Sea Rock Bass and the Ventura's Golden Fillet plate. The whole Bass was a good size (not too big) and was perfectly grilled, making the skin not only edible, but quite crispy and nicely seasoned. The diced potatoes and steamed vegetables were fairly plain but worked well with the overall simplicity of the dish - focus is on the wonderful natural flavours, not on spices or sauces. Sauce is the focus of the other entrie, Ventura's signature golden fillet dish - a creamy Portugese recheio shrimp stuffing, eaten together with lightly battered white fish fillets. It came with great fried potatoes and a salad. Overall, we were really pleased with our experience. The meals were great, our waitress was friendly and attentive, and the restaurant was full of happy diners. Next time I think we will try one of the large seafood platters for two, which we saw being served at nearby tables.
the food was extremly good....the best seafood I have had in a long time!
Excellent ambiance - great seafood, wonderful service. Great Portugese wine too! Highly recommend it.
Two out of three of us enjoyed our food. The grilled calamari was burnt and inedible. We arrived at the restaurant at 8pm on a Sunday evening and were seemingly reluctantly sat at a table. The server (and owner I'm almost positive) asked us if we were ready to order before he even offered us a drink. When I protested he said that the cook wanted to leave. I mentioned that the sign on the door showed that they were open until 10pm, but he said that didn't matter. I at that point wanted to leave but my guests were too hungry to relocate. The cook was still in the restaurant when we left.
