Today I decided to go into the Fifties Diner. I arrived at 1:15 on a Sunday and was rather surprised to see that it was only 1/4 full. There were at least 4 waitresses serving a rather small crowd so I thought - at least they are properly staffed. They were not. What a disorganized place. It took 10 minutes for someone to come and offer me a drink even though there were a number of waitresses standing near the cash. It took 10 minutes to get a menu and my pop. I ordered breakfast and was told that they did not do poached eggs but that rye toast was available for an increased charge. I ordered a standard breakfast but because I was hungry ordered their "smoked meat and cabbage soup" first. This order was given around 1:35. At 2 o'clock I asked the waitress where my coffee was and she then brought it promptly. I also asked her to ensure I got my soup before my breakfast. Another 10 minutes elapsed before she came out with this bowl of soup that was steaming hot and had clearly been microwaved too long. It also had a thick layer of red grease floating on the top. I was unable to even put it to my mouth until well after the breakfast was delivered - and this was 45 minutes after I first sat down. Such a delay may be expected on a busy Sunday but this restaurant still was only about 1/4 full. When the soup was finally cool enough to taste it was old and had clearly soured. I asked to see the manager, who argued with me stating that nobody really orders soup so it wasn't that fresh but still it was not sour. I had her take it away because it was still steaming but inedible. They charged me for it nonetheless. The breakfast itself was also terrible. When my "basted" eggs arrived, the thin slice of watermelon was in the middle of my egg yolk. The rye toast was limp and soaking wet with margerine. I had asked for tomatoes instead of hash browns. Someone had forgotten. I paid $15 with tip for a terrible inedible meal. Don't go there.
