No reason to go back

Kept seeing the ad for this place in the Entertainment Book....sort of presented itself like an 'East Side Marios' level Italian food independant. One Saturday in Spring 2012, family was shopping in the area, so we thought we'd give it a shot for lunch. It's part of a small / mid-size hotel on the Service Road. So, in a nutshell....dated decor (early 80s) and definitely not on the level of East Side in the Italian department (not that East Side is super authentic to begin with, right?). Saw two taps behind the bar, so I ordered a beer....no beer available, their taps 'weren't working'. Not a good start. First thing I ordered off the menu was their house burger.....they were out of them because 'they had a lot of people in the night before'. Hmm. Sooo....this is a new thing I guess? no one had time all morning to go out and get more product? you only order a tiny amount of your house special? lol. Settled on their philly cheesesteak type sandwich...was ok, but not Italian (over half the menu isn't despite the logo and promotion of the place as an Italian eatery)....and clearly it was a few things put together (meat, sauce, green peppers...)and heated up out back, not made from scratch. My wife's lasagna was ok....looked heat and serve too but she said it tasted ok, though greasy. Our little one got chicken fingers....well, they're pre-bought heat and serve of course. Service was ok until we had to pay.....server / bartender disappeared for an extended period of time. Finally went up to the bar and waited another ten minutes before someone came out so I could pay. Oakville has a lot of quality places to eat...this isn't one of them in the end. Really also feel the advertising for the place is misleading, it's not an Italian eatery, it's a little hotel restaurant trying to 'dress itself up' as more. Nothing there to make us want to return.

Quite Serene

I was pleasently surprised with this hotel. Though it does look pretty from the outside it seemed to not be busy so i was hesitant on the service. The staff was wonderful and accomodating and the hotel was very quite which was great because I stayed there for 2 nights between flight changes. The rooms were clean and I had the luxury of getting a jacuzzi suite which was sensational and relaxing. The restaurant staff were not exactly on their toes but the food was very good. The complimentary breakfast in the morning is exactly what you need to start off your day (coffee, juice, muffins etc.)

We made a reservation for 7 p.m. on a Saturday...

We made a reservation for 7 p.m. on a Saturday night. Ours was the last table left when we arrived. We were kept waiting 5 minutes before being seated, with a brief delay enroute to the table to have the host get into a snark match with another server regarding the availability to Jagermeister. We arrived at the table (candle unlit) and waited 10 minutes for our server to approach and ask for drinks. No candle was lit. The wine was produced about 5 minutes later and poured. No order taken, no bread at the table, no candle lit. Finally another 5 to 10 minutes later the host lit our candle and took our orders: he appeared to be irritated by having to do this. The crab cakes & bruschetta appies were fantastic. Our entrees of Veal Limogne & Shrimp was an utter disappointment - one of the scallopinis on each of our plates was dry. I didn't eat mine. The waiter never asked why it was left on the plate. The restaurant emptied out before we received our desserts leaving us, a table of six, a table of two and a drunken regular telling her server how great the service was and that is why she never goes elsewhere (she should). The creme brule of the moment was fantastic - vanilla that night. They state that the desserts are made onsite. After waiting about 10 minutes after we had finished our desserts and coffee we finally had to ask for the bill. This despite the fact that there were three servers in the restaurant all very busily bussing tables and re-setting for a second seating that never appeared. We won't be back. The service is brutal and the food not good enough to warrant going back.
