I took a car I was looking to buy there to get a thorough inspection in the summer of '08. The car was from outside of the province, so it was going to need a safety inspection down the road. They told me it needed new brakes and an oil pan gasket. I got them to do the work on both of these, and they did an OK job on the brakes, but when I took the car to another shop a month later or so, they told me that the oil pan was leaking again (because of Brake Check's poor job of installing it). I had to take the car to another shop (Goodyear) to get safety'd, and sure enough it didn't pass. Goodyear said that the control arms (ball joints) needed to be replaced - something that was an obvious flaw, that Brake Check said they'd specifically checked (and it takes 2 people to check) but were apparently too incompetent to recognize. On this particular car (a VW Passat) the parts and labour ended up costing me over $2000 to replace the control arms. The car, after trusting Brake Check's assessment of it, cost me $4000 to buy. Knowing that the control arms were in need of replacement would have prevented my from buying the car and having to spend that 50% more on getting it fixed. I still maintain that Brake Check is the worst place I have ever done business with in my life. It's highly recommended that you go elsewhere for any work on your car!!
