Top Vietnamese restaurants in Edmonton

Vietnamese food ranges from massive bowls of steaming vermicelli noodles covered in veggies and protein to thick salad rolls or incredibly savoury broth and noodles. No matter what you order, it’s always delicious. These Edmonton restaurants have the city’s best Vietnamese cuisine, pho’sure.

Tien Tuyen Vietnamese Cuisine

1
2619 Ellwood Dr SW, Edmonton, AB T6X 0P7

This cozy spot is a bit hidden but worth finding – it’s located just off of Ellerslie Road, just a stone’s throw away from Anthony Henday Drive. As one of the few Vietnamese places on the south side of the city, it attracts a lot of customers from the area. The menu is big on flavour, with plenty of curries, alongside traditional dishes, such as pho and salad rolls.

Lemongrass Cafe

2
10417 51 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6H 0K4

This restaurant offers up plenty of interesting Vietnamese combinations that I’ve never tried before, my favourite being the mango, chicken and apple in red curry sauce. The thick, stew-like sauce is just the right combo of spicy and sweet. The green onion cakes are a secret treasure – one of my friends swears these fluffy cakes are the best she has ever had. If you’re into healthy, try the Thai salad. It includes spinach, chicken or prawns, onion and peanuts in a light, zesty sesame dressing.

Oriental Noodle House

Thanh Thanh Oriental Noodle House is where pho snobs come to enjoy their broth and vermicelli noodles – it’s undeniably good. The food is authentic Vietnamese, and is speedy enough to sneak in at lunch time, even though it’s not a fast food pho place. The menu helpfully breaks down the menu into northern, central and southern Vietnamese soups, in case you are enough of a pho expert to know the difference. The vermicelli bowls are especially delicious – and massive.

Mini Mango MAS Ltd

3
1056 91 St Sw, Edmonton, AB T6X 0P2

When you need your Vietnamese food to be speedy (or want take out), Mini Mango has got you covered. It’s a tiny restaurant on the south side of Edmonton, with a few tables and cafeteria-style ordering. The red curry is the same quality you’ll find at proper, sit-down restaurants. And their banh mi Vietnamese sandwiches combine the best of French cuisine (baguettes!) with delicious Vietnamese ingredients (pickled carrots!). The whole menu is coded to let you know which items are vegetarian, gluten-free or contain nuts.

Pho Hoan Pasteur Ltd

4
11443 Kingsway NW, Edmonton, AB T5G 3E8

My only Vietnamese friend claims this is the best pho in the city, bar none. Every time we discuss going out for pho, he always, always brings up Pho Hoan Pasteur, better known as “the pho place by Kingsway Mall,” instead of whatever other Vietnamese place we are thinking of trying. Go, if you dare, but be prepared for the fact that it will probably ruin all other pho places for you.

In April 2016, Conde Nast Traveler's Readers' Choice Awards for the Best Pizza in the World: The Top 14 Cities for Pizza placed Edmonton at number eight on the list.
