What’s open and what’s closed this Thanksgiving

Don't get stuck outside closed doors this Thanksgiving. Here's your guide to what's open and what's closed on Monday, October 10.

• Thanksgiving is a holiday in most of Canada and a designated retail closing day everywhere.
• It’s a statutory holiday in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan and Yukon.
• It's a common local holiday in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

• Most federal offices will be closed right across Canada on Thanksgiving Day as well as most local government offices, passport offices, banks, libraries, schools, and government-run beer and liquor stores, except in Quebec.
• Most tourist attractions remain open.
• Many people have the day off work and all schools and post offices are closed.
• Many stores and other businesses and organizations are also closed.
• Public transport services may run to a reduced timetable or may not run at all.

• Most retail stores will be closed in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
• In Quebec retailers can remain open on Thanksgiving, and many stores choose to do so.
• In Ontario most retailers will be closed although some, especially in tourist designated areas in the Greater Toronto Area will remain open.
• In Manitoba most retailers will be closed but major shopping malls will be open on a Sunday schedule.
• In Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia retailers may remain open.
• In the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon, most stores remain open.
