One of Calgary’s favourite Halloween parties, Sled Island teams up with CJSW every year to close out the CJSW funding drive with a massive party. The 2017 edition will be the biggest party yet, with a line-up of more than 15 local bands performing covers of classic jock jams. There’s also going to be karaoke in the basement. It all goes down at the Royal Canadian Legion #1 with doors opening at 8 p.m.
The sounds of The Sonics have echoed through contemporary music since their formation in Tacoma, Washington in the 1960s. Incredibly influential, the band’s perfectly rough-edged garage rock songs include “Strychnine,” “The Witch” and “Psycho” as well as their version of Richard Berry’s “Have Love, Will Travel.” Touring in support of their new album, This is the Sonics, the band plays the No. 1 Legion June 24.
