“It has been quite an adventure,” Kenia Fuentes says, as she looks back on her career as an esthetician. She got started at the Dominelli College in Vancouver, followed by stints at an Aveda salon and the prestigious Spa Utopia in the ritzy Pan Pacific Vancouver Hotel. When her engineer husband took a job in Lethbridge, she decided to open her own spa. “I started my own business and was doing really well because there weren’t many other options for me in Lethbridge,” says Kenia. Her husband’s career eventually led them to Calgary where she reopened as Waxy Boutique in 2014.
Waxy Boutique quickly became a hit and even had Lethbridge clientele following Kenia for her personalized touch. “The key is the passion and love because I really love what I do," she explains. "I really have fun. I’ve met so many great people and I like the beauty of it.”
