Meghan Dear has always had her roots in food and agriculture. Growing up in Wetaskiwin with her family, she watched her father work in his garden and sell vegetables at farmers’ markets while her mother and sister owned and managed a greenhouse business.
Meghan eventually pursued degrees in biology and agriculture at the University of Alberta. “Growing up in that industry, and then cultivating a career around it – I personally felt like there was so much more we could do to improve our food system and set goals for what our food system should look like,” she says. “The challenge was just to go ahead and do it.”
After completing her degree, Meghan performed research, worked oversees and even went back to farm with her father. After months of planning, she eventually founded Localize in 2011, one of the first companies to join Mercer Warehouse’s entrepreneurial hub.
