When Latin Flavours Fitness owner Liliana Knorr moved to Maple Ridge from her home country of Mexico, she noticed that there was something missing. “Coming to Canada, I saw that people were looking for a new way to have fun and exercise,” she says. “My background is in salsa, in music in general. When I listen to my music, it’s a lift for me, it brightens up my spirit, and I wanted to do the same for the community where I had just moved.”
So Liliana set about bringing the power of music and exercise to the residents of Maple Ridge through Zumba, a Latin American combination of dance and aerobics that’s fun for people of all ages. “I went to the recreation centres and nobody knew what Zumba was all about,” Liliana recalls. “So, I started teaching Zumba at the centres. I was at one point teaching four classes a day, and I thought it would be great to have a place where my students could come to me. Together with a friend of mine, we opened our very own studio.”
