since the new owner has taken over it has slowly gotten worse 1st they changed the quality of meat, and gravy, all new staff that are very slow on the service, to now I was just there last night and a new menu with a 1/4 of the selections on it, all the favorites gone. For the small Vienna schnitzel was told I couldnt have it in the chicken they dont cut the chicken in half which when I order the whole order it was in a few pieces. prices have really increased as well. Wont be back
Excellent meal for Lunch Or for dinner choices. Can never miss on any serving. Will never leave the table hungry. FANTASTIC service with a smile. Very polite and courteous.
Excellent, since our first visit in 1986.
My favourite restaurant. Took my mom there often. Sadly she didn’t finish her schnitzel the last time i took her there. She died five days later...cdiff. Never knew she was so sick...but never knew hew to not dig into her soup and schnitzel. Sometimes i just go there alone now". But i miss enjoying it with my mom.
Have been here many many times. But, tonight, was not the same. Food was barely warm. Even after being sent back, not much warmer. Tasted fine.
The service was amazing and so was the food. I highly recommend it. And the goulash is superb. 5 stars put of 5!
Me and a friend went and ordered the farmer's feast. The portions were great but the food was not that well done, the meats were either tough or bland, and the giant balls of flour were too moist. We couldn't get enough gravy over everything to cover it all up. The service too was disappointing, we had trouble flagging down a waitress, and when we finally got one we were told we needed to wait because she had to "take care of someone" else first, she never got back to us and we had to flag down another one. Not that good of an experience.
My mother used to take me here when I was a kid. Now I get the pleasure of taking my two sons here to enjoy the food. The decor is old fashioned, pleasantly lit and hasn't been updated since I can remember, but they keep everything extremely clean and the 'oldness' is really part of it's charm. The menu hasn't been updated either, aside from the odd special they have attached to the menu. All the food I've tasted from here is packed full of flavor, seasoned and cooked perfectly. Everything about it has a wonderful home cooked and hearty feel about it. The portion sizes are what you would expect from a place like this, you're definitely not going to leave hungry. Great selection of beers that compliment the food as well. The wait staff is friendly and accommodating (even when my youngest son is acting up). They always have a friendly smile and make you feel welcome. Overall, a great value and a great place to take the family. Definitely a surefire recommendation.
Every visit is a treat. The atmosphere has the same charm and creates a beautiful ambiance. The server was attentive and focused on making sure our orders were made to our specification. As I often dine here with family (3+ times per year for the past 10 yrs) the staff always ask how the family is doing. The food and prices continue to be exceptional, perfect for next day left overs! The wait for a table can be a bit long, but its well worth the wait as the food is incredible. I will continue to go back!
Three of us went out to The Black Forest. I've always passed by it on my way to work, but have never been in. The food was warm and arrived quickly. I was impressed about the size of the actual veal that came! The meat was very tender and there was plenty of food. We all enjoyed the meal, plus the black forest cake is to die for!
authentic German food really good
amazing food, this place is a real treat, the black forest plate is great for first timers as it gives you a lot of variety, its my favorite. the food is high quality and has a home made taste amazing goulash as well
After 20 years, living in a very German community (Kitchener-Waterloo), it was nice to find a nearby German/Austrian restaurant after moving to Burlington. The decor is delightful, our waitress very friendly and the food was SEHR GUT!! However, beware of the schnitzel. It's humongous!! At least 12" across :^)
Go to this restaurant on a regular basis at least once a week, good food, great service, friendly staff and owners on site, Have not had a bad meal since we started coming here 4 years ago. Good, food and wine, beer selection. have taken friends here when occasion arises. Travel from Burlington just to have a meal here. Great keep up the good work.
My family and I have been coming to the Black Forest Inn (Schwarzwaldhaus) for decades, and it's a tradition for special events such as birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and so on. It has continued to be our favourite restaurant throughout the years, and never disappoints. The atmosphere is fantastic, with an Austrian/German decor that gives one an authentic European feel. The restaurant itself, from the dining rooms, to the washrooms, to the cutlery is utterly spotless. Different seating areas feature both tables and booths with plenty of room and privacy. The staff is excellent, with friendly and attentive waitresses, great cooks, and efficient service. I usually see the owner and his wife on hand, whether greeting guests or working in the kitchen, which is big plus. The restaurant features a large menu with all the standard fare from Germany, Austria, and Central Europe. It may not be fancy, but this authentic, home-cooked European cuisine is the best around. Prices are very reasonable. I am the third generation of my family to count the Black Forest Inn as my favourite dining establishment, and will continue to do so as it lives up to its reputation as a landmark of Hamilton.
I eaten here for lunch about three times in the last few weeks, and really have nothing to complain about. I must say they've improved on their salad quite a bit from a few months back. It seems fresher now. It's homey food, so I prefer to have something a little more different when I dine out. However, at lunch time this place takes care of your hunger pangs!
HUGE PORTIONS This is my first time going to a german restaurant, so I didn't really know what to expect. The first thing I noticed was that EVERYBODY was middle aged and white. I stuck out like a sore thumb. Our server was nice enough, little bit strange, but food came out fast. I went such a long time ago, so I can't really recall everything, but I remember the food being a great bang for the buck (especially the platters which are meant for 2 people, but could easily feed 4). It was a bit heavy, but I suppose it was to be expected from eating 4 different kinds of sausages, ham, eggs, sauerkraut, fried potatoes, etc. etc. Overall, pretty delicious homey meal, would go again, and share a platter with a bunch of friends.
Be prepared to wait..... I think that they purposely make people wait to keep up the hype with this place. The food is fantastic, and very authentic to Germany/Austria. That being said, anyone with an aversion to salt should watch out. I have been here a few times, and have loved the experience everytime..
Our food was cold and so bland! Our server was rude, unattentive, and just as cold as the meal. We went based on reputation....never again! We brought a friend who was visiting from Mainz and he thought it was the worst food he's ever tasted. I was so embarrassed :(
This is still on my list of go-to restaurants in the city. Sure it's basically meat and potatoes and tastes home cooked...but when that's what I want, this is where I go. They make an effort to accomodate and are always pleasant. There is a reason this place has been around forever people..good quality and value. I am sure that they serve the occasional bad meal...all restaurants do...but I would place my bet on this place for a good meal over any other restaurant of the type in the area. If you're hunting, give it a try, chances are you will have an enjoyable meal.
