Carmel Sabourin-Goldstein jokes that she is selfish when it comes to her work as a wedding florist. “I really like doing something really pretty and looking at it and finding it pretty,” says the owner of Atelier Carmel, laughing. “Prettiness is my main motivator”. She also loves taking on some of the pressure for her clients so that they can enjoy themselves. “Part of my business is flowers and part of my business is making it easy,” she says. It’s something her clients really appreciate. “I’ve become friends with so many of them.”
Conjuring up some beautiful imagery, Carmel says she fell into flowers, in a way. “It started as a summer job when I was in CEGEP, so I did that for the three years that I was in school, and when I graduated I wanted to do that more than what I had studied.” Then, she says, “I got calls from friends of friends who were getting married and who were looking for a florist on the side, so I did those weddings, and I had so much fun doing it on my own terms.”
