Since 2005, Anwar Bakleh and his wife Rose Abou-Abdo, owners of Cuir Charland, have been repairing and maintaining valuable items that belong to their customers in the Plateau Mont-Royal area: hats, gloves, boots, bags, everyday clothing and accessories. Married for 30 years and parents of two boys, the couple is dedicated to their small family business with all the patience, precision and expertise that defines them.

Fascinated by beautiful leather pieces since childhood, from a young age Anwar worked in a leather factory and later, learned the cobbler and shoe repair trade, and how to cut keys. But it is his contact with leather and the mastery of the material that reflects the artisan's passion. "It's not an easy job, but it's an exciting job. It requires an apprenticeship of at least one or two years and several years of practise. One must learn the materials and respect them in order to master them, whether in sewing, tapestry or painting,” explains Anwar.
