It’s time to climb! Achieve greater heights of fitness and fun with the Partners in Climb rock climbing course at Beltline Aquatic and Fitness Centre. Bring a friend, and learn the basics of climbing and belaying as well as safety tips. The six-lesson session caters to climbers of all ability levels, and registration must be done in pairs. Ages 18 and older. The fee is $78 plus GST per individual. Classes run Thursdays from March 3 to April 7, 5:30 pm to 6 pm.
Tiptoe into the Killarney Aquatic and Recreation Centre to learn basic ballet moves in its Intro to Barre course. Various ballet movements and positions will be taught to improve balance and muscle tone as well as strengthen your legs, core and upper body. Ages 16 and older. The course runs Thursdays from February 25 to March 24 from 6:05 pm to 7:05 pm. The fee is $65.65 plus GST for five classes.
Release stress and rejuvenate while having a blast through expressive movements. The natural rhythms and power of your body will be explored in the Nia course offered at the Renfrew Aquatic and Recreation Centre. This creative, barefoot workout program combines martial arts and yoga as well as dance. Its cardiovascular, toning and stretching aspects are intended to improve physical and mental wellbeing, deepening the connection between mind and body. Participants must be age 13 or older. The fee is $65.65 plus GST for five classes, Tuesdays, March 1 through 29, 10:30 am to 11:30 am.
Hankerin’ to learn the two-step? Southland Leisure Centre is the place to go, as it is offering two-step classes for dancers age 18 and older. You’ll learn the basic steps, timing and patterns for one of country music’s most popular dance forms. Classes run Wednesdays from February 24 to March 30, 7:50 pm to 8:50 pm. The fee is $66.15 plus GST for six sessions. No partner is required to register.
Everyone into the pool! But first, learn to swim. Village Square Leisure Centre’s Learn to Swim for Adults 1 program is designed for non-swimmer adolescents and adults. Instructors will teach basic breathing techniques, movement skills as well as front and back floats. Individual needs and interests will be addressed by the instructor. Participants must be age 13 or older. Fees are $76.50 plus GST for eight sessions, Tuesdays and Thursdays from Apr 5 to 28, 6 pm to 7 pm.
Whose Line is it Anyway? Let your inner ham out to play, and have a lot of laughs in the Improvisation for Adults drama course at the Wildflower Arts Centre. The small class size ensures every participant will have ample opportunity to learn the basics of improvisation and create live drama on the spot. Be prepared to act silly, be foolish and experience off-the-cuff hilarity. Absolutely no experience required. Classes run Mondays, February 22 to March 14, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. The fee for the four classes is $78.25 plus GST. Age 18 or older.
Birds of a feather may flock together, but do you know which birds are which? Just wing it at Inglewood Bird Sanctuary’s Learn to Birdwatch course. The one-day course for beginner birders will touch on equipment as well as where to find the birds and how to identify them. The course features classroom and field time, so dress for the weather. Participants must be age 12 or older. The course is offered on Saturday, March 19, 9 am to 12 pm and Sunday, April 17, 9 am to 12 pm. The fee is $26.25 plus GST.

Whether you’re a fitness aficionado or simply looking to improve your health, check out the one-hour Weight Room and Strength Training Orientation class at Sir Winston Churchill Aquatic & Recreation Centre. You’ll be introduced to the use of weights and commonly used equipment as well as receive an overview on proper usage and fitness-facility etiquette. The class is offered Saturday, February. 20, 12 pm to 1 pm and Saturday, March 12, 10:30 am to 11:30 am. Regular facility admission fees cover the course. Age 13 and older.
