This four-lane pool in the Southwest corner of the Beltline features registered classes and is open to drop-in swimmers. Check its schedule for lane swimming, length swimming and deep-water workout classes. Families are welcome to splash around during public swim time, with tons of toys and equipment available for everyone. Take advantage of “splash swim” times when individuals and families can swim at a reduced fee.
This busy, 25-metre saltwater pool in southwest Calgary features six swim lanes. Parents can watch the kids cannonball off the one-metre diving board from the poolside spectator gallery or even drop them off with the facility’s certified, onsite childcare professionals before swimming a few laps themselves. Be sure to relax in the hot tub and take advantage of the steam room.
Whether or not you’re a member, definitely check out this rec centre’s indoor aquatic park. Ride the waves in the huge wave pool – a huge favourite for kids’ birthday parties that will score you some serious popularity points. There’s also a tot pool for the little ones, lane pool, hot tub and even a huge, blue waterslide. As a bonus, Westside’s homework room allows kids in grades six to 12 to get their studies done before or after splash time.
Head to this award-winning leisure centre for a ton of fun in its swimming pool and water park. Make like a hamster on water Thursday evenings, when you can roll across the pool inside inflatable, two-metre-wide WOW Balls. Get a workout in the wave pool, then whiz down four waterslides and climb the aquatic playground. You’ll also find a kiddie pool for the little ones as well as a hot tub and steam room.
A non-profit rec centre in Country Hills, Vivo is a great place for people of all ages and abilities. Formerly known as Cardel Place, the LEED certified facility is modern and bright. Admission here gets you access to most drop-in aquatic classes including deep and shallow aquafit. The pool features two 25-metre lanes, tot’s pool, hot tub, steam room and more. A coming expansion will add even more aquatic space.
Formerly an outdoor neighbourhood pool, this now-indoor 25-metre saltwater swimming pool features a climbing wall you can scale from the water. It also features lane swimming, a family swim area and a slide. Channel your inner Tarzan during public swim on the rope swing and cannonball into the pool.
Head into the jungle at this big safari-themed waterpark in northeast Calgary. Both kids and adults can go nuts in the splash zone, take a ride in the wave pool and go deep in the dive tank. The fun doesn’t stop there – check out the spray guns, swinging bridges and dump buckets. Don’t leave without a ride down the facility’s swirling Thunder Run waterslide.
If you’re looking for a real workout, the Talisman Centre on Macleod Trail just south of downtown is great. Here, you’ll find two 50-metre, eight-lane Olympic-sized swimming pools. Perfect your form at the Olympic-grade dive tank with three- five- seven- and 10-metre spring boards. Afterward, reward yourself with a soak in one of two large hot tubs or visit the steam room.
Canada’s main Olympic training facility, this is another one for the hard-core swimmers. Non-students can purchase a day pass to the U of C Aquatic Centre. This state-of-the-art facility features a movable bulkhead that can divide the 50-metre pool into two 25-metre pools. Try a river kayaking or paddling lesson or attend a family swim session.
The sloped beach entry into the pool at this rec centre does double duty, allowing easy access for people of limited abilities while transporting you to a tropical paradise. The warm 30 degrees Celsius waters also help. The third Friday of every month is tween night, on which kids can live it up with soaker guns and music and fun themes like Hawaiian night. Early risers can take advantage of 50 per cent off drop-in fees for swimming from 6:30 am to 8 am on select days.
