Unfortunately, there are just too few gay bars in Calgary despite the city’s growing population. However, several venues proudly serve the city’s gay community with fun and fabulous music and entertainment.
Twisted Element features lots of space for dancing as well as live drag shows and special events on its upper floor. Its downstairs lounge area features lower-decibel music and pool tables. Also enjoy the club’s Sunday evening karaoke performance and Thursday sexy shorts contest.
This is a regular destination for members of the gay community and LGBT-friendly partygoers. A petite basement bar on 17th Avenue Southwest, Texas Lounge is named for respected pillar of the city’s gay community, the late, great Texas Corey.
A small downtown bar featuring pool tables, a fireplace and an outdoor patio, the Backlot is the perfect place to have a drink before heading out for a night on the town or to wind down afterward.
A fabulously cushy lounge above Salt & Pepper Mexican restaurant in Inglewood, Lolita's Lounge presents live singer songwriters and comedians and is also the home of Carly's Angels. The city's best-known drag show, the very popular Saturday evening performances often sell out weeks in advance.
