Montreal has always been a great town to find amazing Greek food – not a surprise if you look at the size of the Greek community here. And you can find something for every taste and budget. Here we are offering up a sampling of some of the best Greek restaurants in the city. Plates are generous so open up your appetite with a glass of Ouzo, a traditional Greek anise-flavoured apéritif!
This is a top pick for authentic Greek fare, serving up great meals that will transport you to Greece for much less than the price of a plane ticket. The decor is also charming and adds to the dining experience. Try the saganaki (an ouzo-flambéed cheese) appetizer or grilled rack of lamb.
As the name suggest, you will find a fabulous terrace here, so arrive early to secure a coveted al fresco table. Le Jardin de Panos is BYOB, so you can bring your favourite bottle of wine with you to accompany delectable dishes like moussaka and lemon chicken.
The decor here makes you feel like you just stepped into a restaurant right on Santorini. The service is excellent and you can enjoy a bottle of wine from the private import list. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, but make sure you don’t miss the lobster pasta!
This restaurant offers great Greek dishes at reasonable prices and also doubles as a great casual wine bar. If you want to try something a little less traditional, go for the Vodka beef stew. For Greek picks the saganaki is wonderful, as is the feta lamb.
You wouldn’t necessarily expect to find wonderful Greek food in this neighbourhood, but Estiatorio Yiasou delivers just that, and does it in style. This is a large venue with friendly and warm service, making it a great place for a family party. The grilled octopus is a winner, as is the steak, sardines and baklava for dessert.
When you decide it’s time to try Mythos, make sure to go on the weekend. The place will be filled with Greek families celebrating and you will get a live music show. Try the fried eggplant appetizer and grilled octopus. And bring your dancing shoes. Opa!
Don’t be fooled by the very simple, family-style feel of this restaurant – the food here is amazing. Better yet, it comes at a great price. The pork souvlaki is one of the best in town and the lamb chops are simply delicious.
With a gorgeous space in Old Montreal, Ikanos is a wonderful choice for an evening of refined Greek dining or a special occasion. The restaurant specializes in modern Greek cuisine and has a great wine list to match. The snow crab salad is a delight, as is the grilled octopus and scallops.
This extremely popular restaurant in a very residential neighbourhood does not take reservations, so be prepared to wait a bit for a table. Don’t worry, the wait will be well worth it! The fare is traditional and more on the fast food side, but it is all very good, especially the calamari and meat skewers.
