Just because you don't eat meat doesn't mean you can't eat a great burger. At these Victoria restaurants you'll find unique and delicious veggie burgers that may even convert the carnivores in your dining party.
With a commitment to sourcing foods locally, ReBar is a vegetarian restaurant that’s truly embraced Western Canadian cooking. One of their two veggie burgers is an almond patty twist on the classic burger, topped with fresh-cut salsa, mustard, mayo, alfalfa sprouts, red onion and a homemade pickle. For something a little different, the Swiss & Mushroom uses the same almond patty, but tops it with local Swiss cheese and mushrooms, as well as horseradish mayo and the usual fixings. Each comes with your choice of fries, salad or one of ReBar’s delicious vegetarian soups.
Big Wheel Burger is simplicity at its absolute best. They focus on ethical, local sourcing to provide fresh and delicious meals anyone can enjoy. The veggie burger here is a tasty favourite featuring real American cheese. Big Wheel is fast food at its finest, providing high quality meals, a casual atmosphere and good food in a timely manner.
Each of Blue Fox’s three veggie burgers features a specialty roasted seed patty made in-house. From there, however, the combinations couldn’t be more different. The Chili Verde has a distinct Mexican feel, with pico de gallo, sweet bell peppers, a jalapeño aioli and feta cheese. The savoury Herbie makes full use of BC mushrooms, cream cheese and sautéed spinach, while the Moroccan offers an African kick with a date and apple chutney for a touch of sweetness.
Be Love was opened with the idea that good food doesn’t need wheat, gluten, meat or even processed sugar. Instead, they focus on preparing high quality, tasty food with local, plant-based ingredients. Their almond-chickpea veggie burger comes topped with all the usual burger fixings, including fresh tomatoes, red onions, lettuce and their signature homemade hot mustard and ketchup. Like everything else in Be Love, it’s made with 95% organic, whole ingredients that are locally sourced whenever possible.
On top of the delicious tofu dog and veggie nut burger, this restaurant has some of the freshest shellfish and seafood in Victoria, all locally-sourced and prepared by people who know seafood. They’ve even made an oyster burger with a Japanese breaded oyster patty and green onion and ginger mayo. But if you're still set on the vegetarian options, the tofu dog features a homemade relish and secret sauce, while the veggie burger is made fresh with sunflowers seeds and flaxseeds.
Bin 4 boasts some of the most imaginative beef burgers in the city and they pour that same creativity into their two veggie burgers. One is made with fried tofu, a sweet corn red pepper salsa, cilantro, a sesame ginger soy drizzle and some wontons for an added crunch. The other is a black bean and chickpea patty, topped with almonds, quinoa, corn, goat cheese, curry aioli and all the other usual burger fixings. Just like their other burgers, these veggie alternatives are made with locally-sourced ingredients whenever possible.
Smith’s Pub has only one veggie burger option on their menu, but it’s so good that everyone, including carnivores, should try it at least once. It’s made with a patty of brown rice, sunflower seeds and almonds that stays together through every bite. It’s topped with fresh tomatoes, cucumber and a sweet pepper relish that’s made in house, then served on a brioche bun. You can wash it all down with one of the many craft beers Smith’s has on their drinks menu.
Good veggie burgers on Victoria’s picturesque waterfront were hard to come by before Canoe Pub introduced their own House Veggie Burger. Combining a Sicilian eggplant relish, goat cheese, fresh aioli and Bibb lettuce, it’s a modern update of the classic burger. Now, on top of the beautiful views and hand-crafted beer, you can get a veggie burger that’s made with the same care and creativity as the rest of Canoe’s menu.
