A century ago, the Bakhshi family started Royal Antique Rugs, and we remain the owners today. Our business consists of selling, buying, cleaning and restoring antique rugs, tapestries and other hand-made woven textiles. We sell and buy only hand-woven, antique rugs that are personally selected by Mr. Bakhshi. Whether you are a collector or simply looking to purchase the best possible rug for home, David's knowledge will guide you to making the perfect selection. We are specialist in restoration and appraisals and all cleaning and restoration work is done on-site.

Imagine going back centuries each and every day, tapping into a different era and listening to the stories of the time. Imagine connecting with the mind of an artist who created an object of beauty in times long gone. Imagine bringing that object of beauty back to life.

This is what David Bakhshi of the third-generation family business Royal Antique Rugs does every day in his carpet restoration work. “When I have a new carpet to work on, I first need to take the time to understand where it comes from and to feel its energy,” he explains. “What I mean is that someone created it and that person had a certain mood. It shows in the carpet. I have to plug into that in order to successfully complete my task.”

The furthest back David has gone is 700 years with a rug from Persia. “It was very fragile so needed a very special approach,” he says. “We only use natural cleaners. Anything harsh will damage the colours in the carpet.”

Alongside Persian carpets, David also cares for those from Turkey and India.
