Meet the owner

When your Vancouver-based Italian restaurant is given an official seal of approval from Italy’s chamber of commerce you know you’re doing something right. Awarded the Ospitalita Italiana in 2011, an honour given to only a handful of top Italian restaurants around the world, Cibo (pronounced chee-bow) tucked away downtown next to the Moda Hotel and Uva Wine and Cocktail Bar may be small, but since opening in 2008, it has certainly gained a big reputation.

Cibo’s general manager and wine director Robert Stelmachuk thinks it’s about getting the basics right, “Our pasta is made from scratch every day and it makes such a difference in how it tastes. You taste a bit more love with hand-made pasta.” He smiles, “Although maybe that’s the butter.”

I have been here several times, close to the entertainment district and serves good food. It isn't busy, busy which is nice actually so you can have a nice conversation with your table mates. The service is always good.

If you’re looking to celebrate later in the day, the first of Cibo’s ‘Mangia Famiglia’ Sunday supper series offers a hearty dinner served family-style for $27 per guest. And to drink? Valentine’s Day dinner menus in Vancouver

In honour of Valentine’s Day, this chic trattoria at the Moda Hotel is inviting lovers to cozy up together with an exceptional dinner for two ($75 per person). Designed by executive chef Ryan Byrd (who previously cooked at the double Michelin-starred Del Posto in New York), the four-course V-day menu includes an array of rustic Italian dishes. Highlights include saffron pasta with fresh Salt Spring clams, wine-braised lamb shank with polenta, and a decadent flourless chocolate cake to share. And hey, if you want to continue the date night after dinner, go ahead and check in to a suite upstairs.
