I thoroughly believe in the therapeutic process, and don't advocate for it simply because it is my career, but just the opposite. I made it my career BECAUSE I so strongly believe in it.
I'm very thankful for those who, in tough times during my life, reached out and offered support that helped me get through, often by giving me relational skills that I did not yet possess. I sometimes think how some of the tough times could have been navigated more quickly and constructively if those friends had more adequate tools/relational skills to offer me.I personally became interested in counselling when, after years of informally enjoying the relational aspect of discussing the lives and troubles of friends and co-workers, I found myself constantly empathetic to the expressed need, yet lacking the correct training and tools to offer substantial and effective help. This frustrated me, because I knew that I truly cared for the people and the situations they were facing, and I wanted to offer more than just a friend's "opinion".
