Meet the owner

In Montreal’s fashion industry, very few designers have followed a path as curved as Violaine Tétreault's. Before moving into fashion and becoming the designer and owner of Veinage, a workshop producing fashion accessories made from leather and wood, Violaine was working in the field of horticulture. “After training in the field, I had a landscaping business for seven years. After that, I wanted to make custom garden furniture. This prompted me to take a course in woodworking, which I loved so much that I abandoned horticulture,” says Violaine.

But Violaine has also been sewing since she was young. One day in her woodworking studio, she decided to grab a piece of wood and use it in the design of a bag. “My friends loved it and soon began ordering from me. I quickly saw that there was an interest and a potential market, and it gave me a ton of ideas for other products, so I started to migrate toward fashion, to the detriment of woodworking.” In November 2010, Violaine launched Veinage, a name that evokes the patterns formed by the wood grain on a finished product.
