Faithful to the memory of film, the Cinémathèque québécoise was created by a group of film enthusiasts in 1963. Although its mission has evolved over the years, today the institution is dedicated to the promotion of film culture, creating national and international film archives as well as film screenings for non-commercial, educational and artistic purposes. Its schedule incorporates short and feature films from a collection of over 40,000 works.
Located in the borough of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, this local cinema is actually a small room housed in a former school. Open since 2014, it shows current and independent films. Warm and friendly, the room has about 40 seats. Each week, a filmmaker comes to present their work and speak with the audience.
Located in Old Montreal, Phi Centre serves as a multidisciplinary cultural centre where the public can view original productions and engage with artists. The Centre is also a venue for art films and “repertoire.”
