Sugar and spice: Sweet kid-friendly bakeries in Vancouver

Purebread
159 Hastings St W, Vancouver, BC V6B 1H4Purebread has been a staple in Whistler and at Vancouver farmer’s markets for years. Their relatively new Gastown location is definitely worth a visit, even if you don’t have kids. The incredible selection of sweet and savoury baking here is amazing – and they certainly don’t skimp on the butter or sugar! You’ll find breads, cookies, muffins, croissants, meringues and many more delicious edibles. The Nutella brioche is very popular, as are the salted caramel brownie pies and the lavender Earl Grey scones. It’s also a good place to pick up gourmet cakes for birthdays and other celebrations.
Butter Baked Goods Ltd
4907 MacKenzie St, Vancouver, BC V6N 1G8Butter is one of those classic Vancouver spots and owner Rose Daykin recently published her own amazing cookbook filled with delicious treats. The Dunbar area bakery is known for its selection of nostalgic baked goods, especially their cupcakes and homemade marshmallows. The chocolate sandwich cookies filled with vanilla butter cream were even shortlisted for Oprah’s annual Favourite Things list. This is definitely a great place to go with the kids for a treat.
Plaisir Sucre Bakery Ltd
2668 Arbutus St, Vancouver, BC V6J 5L8This Kitsilano patisserie is very French and specializes in regional baked goods and desserts: croissants, artisanal loafs, crème brulee, baguette sandwiches, pain au chocolat and more. The pastel macarons are a pretty and colourful bite-sized snack for little ones. Owner Fabrice Roché is a father of two and is always very warm and welcoming to kids.
Terra Breads
2380 4th Ave W, Vancouver, BC V6K 1P1Terrabreads is a good spot to go with picky eaters because there’s truly something for everyone. It’s a great place to grab some bread if you’re putting together a picnic, or just to pop in and have a snack. My kids love their cheese sticks and the house-made lemonade, which is refreshing and not too sweet. There are four locations around the city and they also have free Wi-Fi.
The Last Crumb Bakery and Cafe
3080 Main St, Vancouver, BC V5T 3G5The Last Crumb on Main Street specializes in small-batch baked goods, light lunches and weekend brunch. There’s lots of stroller space inside the space and the owners host a special story time for kids every Tuesday morning at 11:30 am. It’s a nice homey café where you can meet up with other moms and dads and have a coffee and a snack. Parents can also arrange a high tea birthday party for their kids here.
Mink Chocolates
863 Hastings St W, Vancouver, BC V6C 3N9If kids are going to have a treat, it might as well be made with real chocolate and gourmet ingredients right? Mink Chocolates in Gastown has an award-winning dessert menu that’ll appeal to chocoholics of all ages. If you want to do something special, indulgent chocolate fondue served with fruit is a really nice idea for slightly older kids. They also carry gluten-free apple fritters, vegan sausage rolls and a few other alternative treats for kids who can’t eat everything.
